TOM McPOIL
PHYSICAL THERAPIST SPECIALIZING IN FOOT & ANKLE
Tom McPoil received his certificate in physical therapy from Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and his PhD in kinesiology from the University of Illinois. He currently is a professor in the School of Physical Therapy at Regis University in Denver, CO. He is an Emeritus Regent’s Professor of Physical Therapy at Northern Arizona University and a Catherine Worthingham Fellow of the American Physical Therapy Association.
Tom has specialized in the evaluation and management of foot and ankle disorders since 1979. His scholarly contributions have systematically examined foot and ankle function from both scientific and clinical perspectives. For example, he proposed a Tissue Stress Model, helping to explain the contribution of abnormal movement and stress to overuse injuries and how to relieve excess tissue stress with orthotics.
TOM’S CONTRIBUTIONS
Tom collaborated with Phillip Vasyli to create the Tissue Stress Relief Orthotic, taking his innovation directly to practitioners. Its dual-density design helps prevent excess pronation.
