DAVID ARMSTRONG
WORLD LEADER IN DIABETIC FOOT CARE
Trained as a podiatric surgeon, David G. Armstrong, DPM, MD, PhD, is recognized as a world leader in diabetic foot care and limb salvage.
He is professor of surgery at the University of Arizona in Tucson. He is also director of the University’s Southern Arizona Limb Salvage Alliance (SALSA).
Dr. Armstrong was selected as one of the first six International Wound Care Ambassadors and is the recipient of numerous awards by national and international medical organizations, including the inaugural Georgetown Distinguished Award for Diabetic Limb Salvage. In 2008, he was elected into the Podiatric Medicine Hall of Fame. He is the 2010 recipient of the American Diabetes Association’s Roger Pecoraro Award, the highest award given in the field.
Dr. Armstrong has written more than 400 peer-reviewed research papers in more than three dozen scholarly medical journals as well as over five dozen book chapters and is co-editor of the American Diabetes Association’s Clinical Care of the Diabetic Foot, now entering its third edition.
In 2011, Dr. Armstrong was appointed chair of the World Diabetic Foot Commission of the FIP, representing clinicians from more than 30 nations. Dr. Armstrong is the founder and co-chair of the International Diabetic Foot Conference, the largest bi-annual international symposium on the diabetic foot in the world.

In collaboration with Phillip Vasyli, Dr. Armstrong developed an orthotic with patented Glidesoft technology—a breakthrough in reducing skin lesions, infections, and ulcers for many people with diabetic foot problems.
